The Notorious Samus Project

Whats up friends and music lovers. This is the official page of Notorious Samus, the hip hop project blending Biggie rhymes with Super Metroid music. Perhaps you're wondering how this project came about. When I was a kid, I would play Super Metroid for hours on end. At first I only wanted to beat the game. Then I wanted to beat it quick enough to get the best ending. Next, I wanted to uncover the secrets. That evolved into collecting all of the items and weapons, and then to beating it with all items within the best time frame. To put it mildly, I loved this game. I played it for years, and the one constant thing for me during this period was music.

Sometimes I would play with the game music full blast (so atmospheric!). Sometimes, I would play with the tv muted, and listen to some classic hip hop. The Roots, Busta Rhymes, Redman, Mobb Deep, they were all in heavy rotation. The strongest though, was The Notorious BIG. His presence, his lyricism, his comedic sense were all impeccable. I'd listen to Ready To Die, The Junior Mafia Album, and Life After Death on repeat, all while clearing the game in stylistic fashion. The music was what pushed me.

Nowadays, as a hip hop producer and performer, I find myself looking for projects to do on the side. Earlier this year I heard the Ocarina Of Rhyme for the first time, and was absolutely floored. The music was good, really good, and the lyrics went very well with the style of music. And thus, In the name of making beats out of classic video game music and blending it with hip hop vocals, Notorious Samus was born.

I hope you enjoy this project as much as I enjoyed making it. Over the next few days I'll be releasing songs, videos, and insights into the process, and on November 12th, I will release the entire thing for free download. If you enjoy this, and would like to see similar projects created, I ask that you make a donation. Feel free to leave a comment or make a suggestion on a potential project that you would be interested in hearing.

Peace & Love - Cody
